Wonderful 7 Day Self-drive Tour Around Iceland

After arriving at Keflavík international airport or in Reykjavík city, you can start exploring Iceland. If you’re arriving in Reykjavík, we recommend going on a city tour to get orientated. A city tour will show you all the main landmarks and attractions in Reykjavík, as well as give you a taste of the local culture. You can also use this day to do some shopping in the many stores and boutiques in Reykjavík, or to try out some of the delicious Icelandic cuisine. In the evening, you can enjoy the vibrant nightlife in Reykjavík before heading back to your accommodation for the night.

On the second day of your tour, you’ll go on the Golden Circle tour. This is one of the most popular tours in Iceland, and takes you to some of the country’s most iconic landmarks and natural wonders. The first stop is Thingvellir National Park, where you can see the place where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. You’ll also visit the Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal area of Geysir, where you can see the Strokkur geyser erupt. In the afternoon, you’ll head towards the South Coast. The first stop is the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the waterfall. You’ll also visit the Skógafoss waterfall and the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara. You can also take a drive on the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, if it’s open. You’ll spend the night in the Vík area.

On the third day of your tour, you’ll continue exploring the South Coast. You’ll visit the Dyrhólaey rock arch and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. You can also take a boat tour from the town of Vík to see the puffins up close. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the town of Höfn. On the way, you’ll pass the lava field of Skeiðarársandur and the glacial river of Jökulsárlón. You’ll spend the night in the Höfn area.

On the fourth day of your tour, you’ll explore the Eastfjords of Iceland. You’ll visit the town of Egilsstaðir and the Lake of Myvatn. You can also take a hike to the top of the Mt. Brandarfjall for a panoramic view of the area. In the afternoon, you’ll head towards the town of Akureyri. On the way, you’ll pass through the Hvítárvatn lake and the Gjögur canyon. On the fifth day of your tour, you’ll explore North Iceland. You’ll visit the Dettifoss waterfall, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. You can also take a hike around the Mývatn lake, or go horseback riding on the lava fields. In the afternoon, you’ll head back to Reykjavík. On the way, you’ll pass through the Vatnajökull National Park. You’ll spend the night in Reykjavík.

On the sixth day of your tour, you can use to explore Reykjavík city. You can go on a whale watching tour, or visit the Reykjanes peninsula. You can also visit the Blue Lagoon, or take a dip in one of Reykjavík’s many public pools. In the evening, you can enjoy the vibrant nightlife in Reykjavík before heading back to your accommodation for the night.

On the seventh day of your tour, you’ll return to Keflavík international airport. If you have time before your flight, you can use it to explore Reykjavík city or Reykjanes peninsula. Your Iceland adventure comes to an end.
