About Play Iceland
Play Iceland is a free, independent guide to travelling in Iceland — built to answer the practical questions that come up when you are planning a trip, and the ones that come up when you are already on the road.
What you will find here
The site brings together the things travellers actually look up: individual places with directions and context, self-drive itineraries you can follow at your own pace, pre-computed driving distances between destinations, live weather from the Icelandic Met Office, and an aurora forecast.
Alongside those sit our Digital Journeys — guided routes with narrated audio for each stop, designed to be listened to while you drive.
We do not sell tours or take bookings
Play Iceland is a guide, not a travel agency. We do not sell tours, we do not take bookings, and there is nothing to check out or pay for. The self-drive itineraries are free plans you are welcome to follow, adapt or ignore.
If you need to book something — a car, a room, a guided excursion — you will do that with the operator directly. We are not part of that transaction.
Where our information comes from
Weather comes from the Icelandic Met Office (vedur.is) and the aurora forecast from NOAA. Driving distances and times are computed from OpenStreetMap road data. Editorial content is written by us.
Conditions in Iceland change quickly. Nothing here replaces the official sources — check road.is for road conditions and safetravel.is before you set out.
