Most advice about avoiding the crowds is guesswork, and it does not agree with itself. These pages are built from Vegagerðin’s road counters — actual vehicles, counted every ten minutes — so the answer is a measurement rather than an impression. It differs by place: the road past Seljalandsfoss is busiest late morning, the road past Gullfoss not until late afternoon.
