On this 17-day/14-night self-drive tour, go deeper into genuine Iceland. You'll have plenty of time to discover the famous monuments along the Ring Road and explore the magnificent Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The Golden Circle, breathtaking waterfalls, and glittering glaciers are just a few of the memorable highlights of this Icelandic Ring Road trip. Black sand beaches, mountain ridges, and lava caves may all be visited on this trip. This is a perfect opportunity for those who want to explore more of Iceland and see some of its more remote areas. The Westfjords are a particularly beautiful part of the country and offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and whale watching. Day 1: Day 1
Welcome to Iceland! Your first stop should be the world-famous Reykjavík city, where you can explore a variety of museums, art galleries, and other attractions. Don’t forget to try some of the local cuisine, and be sure to pick up a souvenir or two! After a day of exploration, you’ll retire for the night in Reykjavík.
Day 2: Day 2
Next on your itinerary is the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that takes you to some of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders. You’ll start by visiting the Thingvellir National Park, where you can see the point where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. You’ll also visit the Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal area of Haukadalur, home to the geysers Geysir and Strokkur. After a full day of sightseeing, you’ll head to your accommodations for the night in the Hella area.
Day 3: Day 3
Today, you’ll explore Iceland’s South Coast. Your first stop will be the town of Vik, where you can see the black sand beaches that this region is famous for. You’ll also visit the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon and the Skaftáreldahraun lava fields. After a day of exploration, you’ll retire for the night in the Skaftafell area.
Day 4: Day 4
You’ll continue exploring the South Coast today with a visit to the Skaftafell geopark, Vatnajökull national park, and the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. You’ll also have a chance to see the Eastfjords of Iceland, a beautiful but remote region of the country. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Fáskrúðsfjörður area.
Day 5: Day 5
Today, you’ll head to the town of Egilsstaðir, where you can see the Stuðlagil canyon and the Dettifoss waterfall. You’ll also visit the Ásbyrgi canyon before heading to your accommodations for the night in the Húsavík area.
Day 6: Day 6
Your next stop is the Mývatn lake region, where you can see the Hverir mud pools and the Dimmuborgir lava field. You’ll also visit the Goðafoss waterfall and the town of Akureyri. After a day of exploration, you’ll retire for the night in the Akureyri area.
Day 7: Day 7
Today, you’ll explore the Tröllaskagi peninsula, where you can see the Hofsós swimming pool, the Glaumbær farm, and the Skagafjöður horse breeding region. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Skagafjörður area.
Day 8: Day 8
Your next stop is the Hvítserkur sea cliff, Kolugljúfur canyon, and the Illugastaðir seal watching area. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Hvammstangi area.
Day 9: Day 9
Today, you’ll visit the towns of Borðeyri and Hólmavík, as well as the Drangsnes area. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Drangsnes area or Hólmavík area.
Day 10: Day 10
Next, you’ll head to the Strandir region, where you can see the Djúpavík abandoned herring factory and the Krossneslaug geothermal pool. You’ll end your day with a stay in Hólmavík.
Day 11: Day 11
Today, you’ll explore the Reykjanes peninsula, where you can see the Súðavík village and the Ísafjörður fjord. You’ll also visit the Bolafjall viewpoint before heading to your accommodations for the night in the Ísafjörður area.
Day 12: Day 12
Next, you’ll visit the Flateyri and Dynjandi waterfalls. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Patreksfjörður area.
Day 13: Day 13
Today, you’ll explore the Látrabjarg sea cliffs and the Rauðasandur beach. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Patreksfjörður area.
Day 14: Day 14
Your next stop is the Reykhólar area, where you can see the Grábrók crater and the Glanni waterfall. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Borgarnes area.
Day 15: Day 15
Today, you’ll explore the Borgarfjörður area, where you can see the Deildartunguhver hot springs and the Hraunfossar and Reykholt waterfalls. You’ll end your day with a stay in the Snæfellsnes peninsula area.
Day 16: Day 16
Your 16th day in Iceland will be spent exploring the Ytri tunga beach, Bjarnarfoss waterfall, Rauðfelsgljúfur canyon, Arnarstapi, Hellnar, Djúpalónssandur, Lóndrangar, Saxhólar craters, Kirkjufell mountain, and Kirkjufoss waterfall. You’ll end your day with a stay in Reykjavík city.
Day 17: Day 17
