This 8-day self-drive tour will take you to the best-kept secrets of Iceland – the Westfjords and Snæfelssnes peninsula. The Westfjords are a truly wild and unspoiled place, where you can enjoy complete peace and tranquility. The Snæfelssnes peninsula is a land of great contrasts, with its black beaches, glaciers, and towering mountains. On this tour, you will have the opportunity to experience the best that these two regions have to offer, including hiking on a glacier, exploring a lava cave, and visiting the stunning waterfalls of Dynjandi. You will also get the chance to go whale watching and search for the northern lights if you visit during the darker months.
Day 1: Day 1
You begin your Iceland adventure at Keflavík International Airport or Reykjavík City, where you will pick up your rental car. From there, you will drive to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, where you will spend the night. Snæfellsnes is a beautiful area with many natural wonders, including the inactive volcano Snæfellsjökull, which was the setting for Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. There are also black sand beaches, lava fields, and waterfalls. You will have plenty to explore on this day.
Day 2: Day 2
On the second day of your tour, you will explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. You will visit the fishing village of Arnarstapi, the black sand beach at Djúpalónssandur, the sea stacks at Lónsdrangar, and the Kirkjufell mountain. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is a beautiful and varied area, and you will have plenty of opportunity to explore it on this day.
Day 3: Day 3
On the third day of your tour, you will take a boat tour from Stykkishólmur to the island of Brjánslækur. This is a beautiful island with red sand beaches, waterfalls, and lava fields. You will also visit the island of Rauðasandur, which is famous for its red sand beaches. The island of Látrabjarg is also on the itinerary for this day. This is the westernmost point in Iceland, and it is famous for its birdwatching opportunities. You will spend the night in the Patreksfjörður area.
Day 4: Day 4
On the fourth day of your tour, you will explore the Westfjords. The Westfjords are a beautiful and remote area of Iceland, and they are home to many natural wonders. You will visit the Dynjandi waterfall, the Flateyri village, and the Reykjanes geothermal pool. You will spend the night in the Ísafjörður area.
Day 5: Day 5
On the fifth day of your tour, you will continue to explore the Westfjords. You will visit the village of Súðavík, the Krossneslaug geothermal pool, and the Strandir coastline. The Strandir coastline is a beautiful and remote area, and it is home to many interesting birds. You will spend the night in the Hólmavík area.
Day 6: Day 6
On the sixth day of your tour, you will explore the Strandir coastline. You will visit the village of Djúpavík, the Krossneslaug geothermal pool, and the Hvítárvatn lake. You will have the opportunity to go birdwatching in the Strandir area. You will spend the night in the Hólmavík area.
Day 7: Day 7
On the seventh day of your tour, you will return to Reykjavík City for your last night. Reykjavík is a beautiful city, and there is plenty to see and do. You will have the opportunity to explore the city on this day. You will spend the night in Reykjavík.
Day 8: Day 8
On the eighth and final day of your tour, you will return to Keflavík International Airport for your flight home. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have the opportunity to explore Reykjavík city or Reykjanes peninsula. Your Iceland adventure comes to an end.
