You will start your journey in Reykjavík, the world's northernmost capital city, and then head out into the stunning Icelandic countryside in search of the elusive northern lights. Your base for this trip will be in the small town of Vík, where you'll have easy access to some of Iceland's most iconic natural landmarks, like the black sand beaches and the Dyrhólaey cliff. From there, you'll venture out each night in search of the best spots to see the northern lights. With a little luck, you might even get to see them dance above one of Iceland's many glaciers or volcanic landscapes. This is an excellent trip for those who want to experience the beauty of Iceland while also getting a chance to see the northern lights.
Day 1: Day 1
After arriving at Keflavík international airport or Reykjavík city, you will start your 7 day Iceland adventure. First, you will drive to Reykjavík city where you will spend the night. On the way, you may want to stop at the Blue Lagoon to relax in the geothermal waters. In Reykjavík city, you can explore the local shops, museums, and restaurants. Be sure to try the local delicacies such as Icelandic fish and lamb. In the evening, you can go on a hunt for the northern lights.
Day 2: Day 2
Today, you will explore the famous Golden circle. This route takes you to some of Iceland’s most popular natural attractions such as Þingvellir national park, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir geothermal area. You can also visit the Kerið volcanic crater and the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths. In the evening, you will go on a hunt for the northern lights.
Day 3: Day 3
Today, you will explore the south coast of Iceland. You will start by visiting Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind. Then, you will visit the Gljúfrabúi waterfall, which is hidden behind a cliff. Next, you will see the Skógafoss waterfall, which is one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. After that, you will drive to the Dyrhólaey promontory, where you can see the Reynisfjara black sand beach and the town of Vík. In the evening, you will go on a hunt for the northern lights.
Day 4: Day 4
Today, you will continue exploring the south coast of Iceland. First, you will see the Fjarðrágljúfur canyon, which is a deep and narrow canyon. Then, you will visit Kirkjubæjarklaustur, which is a small village in the middle of nowhere. Next, you will see the Skaftafell geopark, which is part of the Vatnajökull national park. In the evening, you will go on a hunt for the northern lights.
Day 5: Day 5
Today, you will return to the town of Vík and explore it more. You can visit the Reynisfjara black sand beach and the Dyrhólaey promontory. In the evening, you will go on a hunt for the northern lights.
Day 6: Day 6
Today, you will explore the Reykjanes peninsula. You will start by visiting the Seltún geothermal area, where you can see the bubbling mud pots. Then, you will visit the Brimketill lava rock pool, where you can swim in the refreshing water. After that, you will see the Gunnuhver hot springs, which are steaming hot springs. Next, you will visit the Reykjanesviti lighthouse and the Bridge between continents. In the evening, you will return to Reykjavík city and spend the night there.
Day 7: Day 7
On the final day of your Iceland adventure, you will either explore Reykjavík city or Reykjanes peninsula, depending on your flight schedule. You may want to visit the Hallgrímskirkja church, the Harpa concert hall, or the Perlan museum. Or you may want to visit the lava field, the geothermal beach, or the blue lagoon. After that, you will head to the Keflavík international airport and depart from Iceland.
