Visit the beautiful attraction on the world-famous South Coast of Iceland in this 6-day / 5-night self-drive tour. Don’t worry if you’ve only got a few days to visit Iceland. This short self-drive tour will take you to some of the most breathtaking natural sites in Iceland, without running you ragged all over the country! Your days will be packed with stunning waterfalls, black sand beaches, and towering volcanoes. You’ll see majestic glaciers and soak in natural hot springs. But you’ll focus on a manageable area, so you don’t spend your whole vacation stuck in a car!
Day 1: Day 1
You’ll start your Iceland vacation by flying into Keflavík International Airport, just outside of Reykjavík. After you collect your rental car, drive into the city to check into your accommodation. Reykjavík is a charming city with a lot to offer, so you may want to spend some time exploring. Stroll down colorful streets, browse unique shops, and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the city’s many great restaurants. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go for a dip in the Reykjavík Geothermal Beach.
Day 2: Day 2
On the second day of your Iceland vacation, you’ll start exploring the Golden Circle. This is a popular tourist route that takes you to some of Iceland’s most iconic sights. Your first stop will be Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Then it’s on to the geothermal area of Haukadalur, where you’ll see the famous geysers Strokkur and Geysir. End your day with a visit to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls.
Day 3: Day 3
On day three, you’ll begin exploring the South Coast of Iceland. You’ll start with a visit to the small town of Vík, where you can walk on the black sand beach and see the dramatic cliffs of Reynisdrangar. Then it’s on to the world-famous waterfall of Skógafoss. After that, you’ll have the opportunity to hike on a glacier or go for a snowmobiling adventure. In the evening, you can relax in your accommodation in the Vík area.
Day 4: Day 4
On the fourth day of your vacation, you’ll continue exploring the South Coast of Iceland. You’ll start with a visit to the Vatnajökull National Park, where you can see the stunning glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón. Then it’s on to the Skaftafell Nature Reserve, where you can hike through glaciers and waterfalls. In the evening, you’ll check into your accommodation in the Höfn area.
Day 5: Day 5
On the fifth day of your vacation, you’ll head back towards Reykjavík. But not before stopping at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascading water. You’ll also visit the Gljúfrabúi waterfall, which is hidden away in a canyon. In the evening, you’ll check into your accommodation in the Hella area.
Day 6: Day 6
On the final day of your vacation, you’ll drive back to Keflavík International Airport and drop off your rental car. Then it’s time to say goodbye to Iceland and head back home.
