Self-drive tours are the best way to experience all that Iceland has to offer. This way you are in full control of the journey, no hassle and no crowded buses!
Please note that adding optional activities may change the itinerary slightly. We will provide a detailed itinerary once your booking has been confirmed.
If you are planning on driving in Iceland during winter, between September and May, we highly recommend choosing a 4×4 vehicle for your safety and to make your vacation more enjoyable. The weather in Iceland can change suddenly and you could encounter snow or sleet. Some roads are also not accessible for smaller vehicles but can be reached on 4×4´s.
To ensure your safety on our self-drive tours in Iceland, we only provide 4WD cars from 1st of October through March, due to possible snow, sleed, and other hazardous road conditions.

Day 1
After your arrival at Keflavík airport, you will pick-up your rental car and start your adventure. You will head to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city and spend the remainder of the day exploring some of the city symbols. We recommend walking to the Hallgrímskirkja church and taking a stroll through the city center and harbour area. There are also many museums in the city and a visit to the Whales of Iceland exhibition is highly recommended. Your accommodation for the night will be in Reykjavík.
Km driven: 50
Day 2
After breakfast you will get back on the open road and head to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. on your way you will encounter vast lava fields with numerous volcanic craters. You will continue driving until you reach Arnarstapi, a charming fishing village in beautiful surroundings. Afterwards you will head to Djúpalónssandur where you can test your strenght against the lifting stones that were once used to determine the wages of fishermen. You will continue driving around the Snæfellsjökull National Park through the towns of Hellissandur and Ólafsvík until you reach Mt. Kirkjufell, a beautiful cone shaped mountain that has become a popular subject among professional photographers. Your accommodation for the night will be in Stykkishólmur, a fishing village on the Northern shore of the peninsula.
Km driven: 300
Day 3
After breakfast you will head to the Borgarfjörður area. You will drive around in the beautiful countryside of West Iceland and get a glimpse into the life of Icelandic farmers. Highlights of the day include the stunning waterfall Hraunfossar and its neighbor Barnafoss waterfall, Deildartunguhver hot spring which is the most powerful hot spring in Europe. If you are up for some hiking we recommend hiking to the waterfall Glymur in the Hvalfjörður fjord. Glymur is Iceland’s second highest waterfall and a sight to see. The hike up to it is, however, a little bit challenging and not for people that suffer from fear of heights as the paths are at times narrow with steep hills on each side. You will then head back to Reykjavík for your last night in Iceland.
Km driven: 260
