Day 1

Welcome to Iceland! After you arrive at Keflavík airport, you will pick up your rental car and head towards Reykjavík, where you will spend your first night. Depending on your arrival time, you might explore some museums or go on a wildlife trip from the harbor. If you do have an early arrival, just let us know so we can help you plan your first day. After that, you will check into your hand-picked accommodation and the rest of the evening is in your hands. Some people prefer to relax on their first night in Iceland, and others will start hunting for the magical Northern Lights straightaway.

Km driven: 50

Day 2

Today you will head to the spectacular Snæfellsnes peninsula, home to volcanoes, black sand beaches, fjords, glaciers, and lava fields. Your first stop will be Borganes, a small town located in the Borgarfjörður fjord. You might like to visit the settlement center, where you will discover the rich history of the first Icelanders.

From there, you will drive through the lava fields of Eldborgarhraun where you can take a short hike up to the magnificent volcanic crater called Eldborg. Next, you’ll drive along the peninsula’s south coast to Arnarstapi and Hellnar where you can add an optional caving expedition to an 8000-year-old lava cave called Vatnshellir. Afterward, you will head to the Snæfellsnes National Park.

If conditions are good and you’re in a 4×4 car, it is possible to drive up to the glacier’s edge and take a walk on the ice cap.  Then you can check into your accommodation and enjoy an evening meal to restore your energy. After your meal, it’s time to go searching for the Northern Lights in the gorgeous countryside on your doorstep.

Km driven: 235

Day 3

Today you will wake up in the beauty of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. To start your day, you will head to Stykkishólmur, a charming fishing town by the peninsula’s north coast. We highly recommend taking a boat ride out on the bay to observe the area’s fantastic wildlife. You will even get to taste freshly caught scallops and mussels right on the boat. Just let us know if you want us to arrange this for you!

From Stykkishólmur, you will head towards Húsafell in the wild west of Iceland. On your way there, you will make stops at the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. In Húsafell, you can also join an optional expedition to the man-made ice cave in Langjökull glacier. Your accommodation will be close by, so take some time to relax after your exciting day. Then it’s time to wrap up warm and chase the dancing lights of the Aurora once more.

Km driven: 235

Day 4

This morning you will head out to the gorgeous Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can explore the spectacular rift valley, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart.

If you’re feeling up for a real adventure, we can arrange for you to go snorkeling in the crystal clear water between the two continents. After your time in Þingvellir, you will head to the Geysir geothermal area to see the explosive hot spring Strokkur. Then you’ll head on to Gullfoss waterfall, completing the world-famous Golden Circle road trip.

You will spend the night in the Flúðir area. You might like to unwind in the Secret Lagoon, or perhaps you’ll be called back out to hunt down the Northern Lights. (And then there’s the really lucky people who might see the Aurora from the hot springs!)

Km driven: 245

Day 5

Today will head to the South coast. Your first scheduled stop will be at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, but you’ll probably stop to admire more sites of natural beauty along the way. You can actually walk behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall, but you might get an extra shower you hadn’t counted on!

Driving past Eyjafjallajökull glacier, you should take some time to see the gorgeous waterfall called Skógafoss. Next, you will walk down the black sand beach of Sólheimasandur black sand beach to visit the famous plane wreck.

A little further east, you can see the beautiful basalt columns of Reynisfjara and witness the awe-inspiring power of the North Atlantic ocean pounding on the rocks. Finally, you will spend the night in the Vík area, where you can head out for another chance to see the Northern Lights.

Km driven: 145

Day 6

It’s the last day of your adventure, but there’s still plenty for you to explore today. You can start your day by going for an optional glacier hike at the Sólheimajökull glacier before heading back towards Reykjavík. You will be well looked after by an experienced guide who can provide all the technical equipment, so don’t hesitate to ask us to arrange this for you!

On your way to Reykjavík, you can make a stop in the town of Hveragerði and take a hike to Reykjadalur valley. Bring your swimsuit because you’ll be bathing in the geothermal river that runs through the valley. You will soak beneath the open sky, surrounded by the wild Icelandic hills.

This could also be a good day to visit the world-famous Blue Lagoon. We can help you get tickets to this volcanic spa, but you’ll have to let us know well in advance! You will spend your final night in Reykjavík.

Km driven: 185 to 265 (depending on itinerary choice).

Day 7

Sadly, your adventure has come to an end. Enjoy one last breakfast in the capital city, and then it’s time to pack your bags. Then you will make the short drive back to Keflavík airport to drop off your rental car. We wish you a safe journey home, and we hope to welcome you back to Iceland in the future.
